Afghanistan War IEDs Cause Surge In Double Amputees Among U.S. War Wounded

i lost my right leg due to diabetes two years ago. they've wanted to cut my left one off since last summer, but i have reasons to delay it for now. when i received my prosthetic leg from the VA i was told that, if i got to use it well enough, i'd receive a computerized upgrade.

this decides it for me: the hell with it. they need them more than me. what happened to me was the result of my own decisions. i served, but never saw combat, and i feel guilty enough about using VA facilities. the money should be spent on them; they still have their lives ahead of them.

i can only speak for myself, but i believe combat vets have top priority, and everyone serving there IS a combat vet, due to the use of IEDs. everyone there is a potential target. regardless of the fact that we shouldn't be there--and wouldn't have been if bin Laden were stopped at Tora Bora--these people don't deserve this. they deserve better.
