Sendai Earthquake 2011: Could Scientists Have Predicted Japan's Disaster?


i also worry about the New Madrid area in the Central US. go back and check on the quakes of 1812, and see what would happen now.



i'm not sure, but i'd tend to believe that (1) either there's a hot spot under the crust, such as created the Hawaiian Islands, or (2) a rift valley might be trying to open, much like the one that starts at the Sinai-Red Sea Junction and goes south through Africa.



2-3 months ago, i saw a homeland security report revealing concern for adequate emergency supplies, in case another 'New Madrid' series of quakes occur. that doesn't sound very optimistic to me.
