the late physicist Richard Feynman wrote about this when he encountere­d a similar situation in South America (i believe it was Bolivia). he flat-out told them they had no science there, because they were taught to memorize facts. they weren't taught to think, to criticize or analyze. all they did was regurgitat­e words from a text without understand­ing one concept at all.



now it seems we're going down that same path. . .
