Melanie Safka was one of the performers at Woodstock in 1969 (i have an LP of her performance). there was a storm as she left: she looked back , and saw the immense crowd huddled together in the rain, many holding candles in the air. . .that was the genesis of this song, probably the best she ever did. . .

yes hi okami- thank you for the blog. Melanie's song is grea, and her performance at Woodstock was really good, but Lay Down is not her best song!!
