sexual repression and psychological flagellation is a major conservative value; all you have to do is take a look at all the scandals which predominantly--not always--involve the right and hard-line conservatives, especially among the more religious.



repressing all that normal sexuality has to be expressed elsewhere, usually as aggression against others, including those who 'don't have the sense' to be as miserable as them.
