NASA's Next Mission: Send Astronauts To Asteroid

we still need the asteroids. they can save billions, even trillions of dollars in going to Mars. there are those which regularly cross the Earth's orbit. we can hitch a ride on them and detach once we're close enough to Mars. the material would shield astronauts from solar radiation, especially that caused by coronal mass ejections. shielding and fuel are gigantic and expensive problems when it comes to Mars, and asteroids can help. not to mention they can also be mined for their metals and chemicals. as i say above, we can also learn to alter their orbits so that, in the future, a city-wrecker or planet-killer doesn't hit us.
