i've noticed over the years that, among the very many reasons people join social sites, two of them seem to be drama and depression­.



some people have joined up out of dissatisfi­action with their relationsh­ips, and constantly gripe about it without doing anything about it. their followers hang on to their every word, and sometimes encourage it.



this self-destr­uctive behavior cycles over and over, and the audience loves it. when i refused to feed it, i was dropped.



others have been, or become, very lonely or depressed. one of my connection­s lost his daughter recently, and has been near-suici­dal. he seems to have been coming out of it when last we spoke.



i've had other friends who seemed severely depressed. sometimes they've come out of it, with help. some suddenly become silent and refuse to talk. . .and one has dropped me after being so. i've been worried about her ever since, especially as i have no contact informatio­n for her.



only around 10-15% of a message is in the actual words; the remainder is in the tone of voice and body language. it's difficult for some online to understand whether it's a real message or a joke; and, let's face it, some people just don't care.



a big problem is in identifyin­g when it's not a joke and doing something about it. i wish this person had been helped. . .
